Meet Kauanoe
Kauanoe Batangan is a Maui County Council member running for election to continue serving our community. A generational resident of Kahului, he brings proven experience at the federal, state, and local levels of government to deliver real results for our ʻāina and kamaʻāina.
Throughout his career in public service, Kauanoe has focused on delivering impactful leadership at every level. He founded the Daniel K. Akaka Congressional Fellowship for Native Hawaiian representation in federal policymaking, led advocacy efforts to expand the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument, and oversaw county planning for an interisland ferry connecting Maui, Molokai, and Lānaʻi. Following the August 8, 2023 wildfires, he stepped up to serve as a manager in the Office of Recovery, where he organized critical healthcare and social services to ensure survivors received immediate care and long-term relief.
Kauanoe believes the cost of living is crushing local families and that our government must do more to lower costs across our islands. He will use every tool available to champion our shared future.

The Misty Rain
My name, Kauanoe, means “the misty rain.” This name carries profound kuleana and guides my approach to public service. In our traditions, the misty rain is a source of life, a healing presence, and a blessing.
As your councilmember, this defines my leadership: to listen with humility, bridge divides with patience, and serve as a steady, nourishing force for our community. My duty is to quietly but fiercely cultivate the conditions where our ʻāina and kamaʻāina can flourish.
